See this movie, it was a pleasant surprise! I laughed throughout the entire movie, and while at some points in the movie I was frustrated with its progression, the overall experience was a good one.Chris Rock is funny, but the interaction with his co-stars along with comedic timing are what carried the movie. If you don't like subtitles, don't bother. With the subtitles, French and English dialogue AND the humor, getting sidetracked could be an issue, albeit not a big one. I don't mind subtitles at all, but I could see this distraction becoming a problem for some. Also, this movie <more>
is appropriately rated. If you are not into a little bit of raunchiness, then you might want to skip this film.
One of the best comedies this year! (by ayn-448-845765)
I watched 2 Days in New York last night and I absolutely loved it! I was bot sure whether I should go to see it, because of very mixed reviews, but this movie absolutely worth seeing. Julie Delpy is a brilliant director, she proved ones again, after 2 Days in Paris, that women can make very deep, but at the same time very funny movies. I loved Delpy's thoughts on marriage and relationships at the end of the movie, it is very simple, but people forget about it all the time. Besides Delpy and Chris Rock's performance, I absolutely loved Marion's crazy sister and even crazies father. <more>
Some scenes made me laugh so hard. Everyone who has been in relationships with someone from another country will definitely appreciate this movie. Finally, this movie is so New Yorkish that it makes it impossible not to like it!
"It's my mother. No tongue". A funny comedy about love and the lack of communication between different cultures (by antoniatejedabarros)
"It's my mother. No tongue" Mingus / Chris Rock 2 Days in New York is a brilliant and funny sequel to the cool 2 Days in Paris. The film was directed by Julie Delpy and written by Julie Delpy and Alexia Landeau Rose in the film .Julie Delpy wrote Mingus' role especially for Chris Rock. The film continues describing the lack of communication between different cultures and we find hilarious scenes that are very real. As 2 Days in Paris, 2 Days in New York has a taste of Woody Allen and of European films.2 Days in New York didn't get any important award. The best: the lack <more>
of communication between different cultures, Chris Rock, Albert Delpy, the sauna scene, the yoga class and Rose's breast, the music, and the puppets. The worst: nothing.
One of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time (by Kimmmmi)
I saw this last night and could not stop laughing. It is difficult to keep pacing throughout a movie but this movie does that and keeps you laughing throughout. While other reviewers seem offended by the antics of the French family, many of us in the audience nodded realizing we all have those crazy members in the family who left under their own devices act insane.Chris Rock plays the straight man in this movie which is a refreshing change of pace. The chemistry of the cast is evident throughout in how familiar they are with one another and how comfortable the actors seems to be. It is easy <more>
to believe that you have walked into a crazy family dynamic. The storyline is quirky and plot a little light but the laugh out loudness of this movie more than makes up for it.
I have to say this movie kept me laughing! I was a Julie Delpy fan anyway,so when I saw that Chris Rock was in it & they were playing a couple I thought this could be interesting. I really loved that the movie had great pacing. It moved along pretty quickly. When the family finally arrived from France the movie shifts into high gear. I especially loved the script.I never knew what a great writer Julie Delpy was!The father is a hoot,I loved that the sister thinks that her & Chris Rock have this connection Even if he's with her sister, and she came with her boyfriend.}I love how <more>
things being said in french & English get mixed up. I can see that Chris Rocks time on Broadway is paying off and he's picking better movies. Anyway give this movie a shot you won't be disappointed.
..... but i enjoyed every minute. chris rock is always fun and funny and the actress playing his wife pulls off her character to perfection.the household of screwball Americans and visiting French family sharing one small apartment in NYC has more twist and turns the viewer cannot guess what will happen next. and in that is the charm of this lighthearted story.be prepared to get lost reading the English subtitles of the French speaking visitors. i could hardly keep up! but the story and characters draw you in and the viewer is compelled to become intellectually involved with the wife and her <more>
anxieties.this is a weird and delightful film and very unlike what you would expect from American corporate movie makers.
When the movie began I turned to my fellow cinema goer and asked, is this the film??? And for the first 10 minutes we wondered if we'd made a mistake choosing this film over the other option... A kiss for Jed. But I can safely report that its well worth a watch!!! Its laugh out loud funny at times and has a heart : Its uplifting and different. I was very impressed with Chris Rock playing a character slightly outside his comfort zone, and for taking on what I would consider to be a risky project, it certainly paid off and he was very believable as a 'real' character. anyone with <more>
interesting in-laws will appreciate and get a laugh out of this film. So go see it!!
Some of these reviewers need to get over themselves (by steve-everhard)
I think it's hilarious that some of the reviewers chastise the FRENCH Julie Delpy for portraying French people abroad in an unbelievable and unflattering light. Yeah of course you are more likely to be right! Part of the charm of the movie is showing that many cultures, when travelling, behave far more informally than they do at home. The situations here are supposed to be caricatures and not politically correct plastic people and they work well. And yes, the French talk about sex a lot - it's part of their charm - and they like to embarrass each other too. These guys are supposed to <more>
be from Brittany which isn't Parisienne sophistication but rural grit and it makes for a very funny movie that doesn't contain a Allen-esque message but is great entertainment pure and simple. Don't come to the movie expecting Chris Rock standup and zaniness great casting for that reason alone but to be humoured in a gentle way more reminiscent of slapstick than Woody Allen. Julie Delpy writes very well and maintains a good pace as director. All in all a job well done.
Delightful Mix of Farce and Metaphysics (by shybiker)
I discovered Julie Delpy in the "Before..." trilogy and was thrilled to see she's written, directed and acted in these two "2 Days..." films. Seeing "2 Days In Paris" shortly before viewing this movie was helpful because there's so much that carries over from that original to this sequel.Everything about this movie appeals to me. The entertaining mix of farcical humor low art and metaphysical inquiry high art is reminiscent of Woody Allen's best work. And the quality of the writing is high. The dialogue Julie crafts sounds authentic and makes the <more>
characters credible. Also charming is her choice of cast-members. I'm a big fan of Daniel Brühl from his superb work in "Rush" and "Inglourious Basterds" , so seeing him in cameos in these two films is a delight. And adding the infamous artist who plays the purchaser of Julie's character's soul is inspired. I leapt with joy at seeing that surprise.Independent film exists for personal, well-crafted art and Julie Delpy is supplying us with some nice work. I'll follow her future efforts without exception.
